Vikramshila Setu

Vikramshila Setu is a new bridge in that has been constructed on river Ganges, in city of Bhagalpur, Bihar, India. This has been constructed to connected city of Bhagalpur and Purniya. Since in rainy seasons during June to August the condidion of Ganges is very bad, the river is flooded with lot of rainwater. Thus this was constructed to help the people of both sides to travel. The bridge is 4.7 km in length. This bridge is the second largest bridge in Bihar after the Mahatma Gandhi Setu, Patna and also in northern India.
Vikramsheels Setu, which connects National Highway 31 with National Highway 80, considerably reduces the distance between several places including those in the north-eastern states and West Bengal. The distance it saves in some parts of the state amounts to 250 km or so, thus re-assuring its significance in revolutionizing the road transport scenario in Bihar. The bridge comes handy for the banana cultivators around Naugachia and millions of rural people, who otherwise had to depend on boats and steamers to cross over the river.

Bhagalpur...A Look

The roots of Indian civilisation stretch back in time to pre-recorded history. The earliest human activity in the Indian sub-continent can be traced back to the Early, Middle and Late Stone Ages (400,000-200,000 BC). Implements from all three periods have been found from Rajasthan, Gujarat, Bihar, parts of what is now Pakistan and the southern most tip of the Indian Peninsula.
These Paleolithic people were semi-nomadic hunters and gatherers for many millennia. Five main races of people were in existence when the move to an agricultural lifestyle took place, in the middle of the 9th millennium BC. These were the Negrito race, the Proto-Australoid; the Mediterranean race, the Mongloids and the Alpine people.
The first evidence of agricultural settlements on the western plains of the Indus is roughly contemporaneous with similar developments in Egypt, Mesopotamia and Persia. These settlements gradually grew and the inhabitants started to use copper and bronze, domesticated animals, made pottery and began trade activities.
Angika is considered as oldest language of Hindi family. According to Pundit Rahul Sankritiyayan, the evidences of oldest form of written Hindi literatures are available in the Sarah ,s Angika poetries of 800 A.D
